So...now what?

It's been almost a month since I last posted, and I don't have any good ideas for a post today either. *sigh* I'm not sure what to do. On the one hand, I feel like I might as well pack it in and call it a day, say goodbye to blogging, and just tweet a lot and keep posting pics on Instagram. Then again, I really love my blog and I love knowing it's here for if/when I'm ready to get back into the swing of things...whenever (if ever?) that may be.

Now that Google is shutting down Reader, I've been thinking about this a lot more. I decided to bite the bullet and added myself to Bloglovin' so folks could keep following me over there, if they wanted to.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I'm still not sure what this means for me and the future of my blog, but like said, if/when I'm ready to get back into the swing of things, now you'll know where I am.

Happy Monday.

Friday Fancies: Red Carpet Ready

Happy Oscar Weekend!

I love, love, love the Oscars! I especially love watching the Red Carpet beforehand, which is why I always have fun when Friday Fancies is Red Carpet themed (you may remember my Golden Globes look, or my design from Oscars 2012). Here is this year's rendition:

Birchbox: February - Red Carpet Ready

This month's Birchbox has arrived! The theme was "Red Carpet Ready":

Here's what was included this month:

  • Beauty Protector | Protect & Detangle
  • Color Club | Nail Polish in Wild Cactus
  • Dr. Jart + | Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm
  • Juicy Couture | Couture La La
  • Treat - Ghiradelli Milk & Carmel Sqaure
I haven't had a chance to try any of the products yet (well, except the chocolate - yeah, I ate that!). I do like the smell of the Couture La La. It's not a scent I'd normally go for, but it's fresh and bright. The Beauty Protector is something I'm interested in, but unfortunately it spilled a bit in shipment. I'm not sure if it separated or if it just drained a little bit out...I'll give it a shot, still. The Color Club polish is a much bolder color than I'd normally choose, but Emerald is the color of the year! It'll probably end up on my toes at some point; I want to get a pedi soon.

I have been using some of the products I received in my January box. The Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo is amazing. Normally clarifying shampoo leaves my hair feeling stripped, and it tends to have a medical smell. This leaves my hair soft, lush, and smelling great! I also have been wearing the Yogini fragrance that came as a sample in my welcome box, which earned me some nice compliments, including one from my husband who hates anything too perfumey and/or overwhelming scent wise. It's super light, but not too Spring-y.

I don't know if I have one more box coming or not...I had a small trial subscription. I haven't decided if I'm going to renew or not. I'm going to look into some other box subscriptions to see if anything else strikes my fancy. Have you tried other boxes? Do you subscribe to Birchbox? Tell me your thoughts!

WW: Improving Habits

The new year has been good for me. It hasn't been quick, and it hasn't been easy, but it's been good.

Here is my weight graph since our first weigh-in this January:

That's the directions things are supposed to be moving in! Down! Yes, the past few weeks have been a very slow decline - I lost 1 pound between January 26 and February 16, but I still lost! And there were two birthday parties and trip to Vegas in that gap, so I consider being down a major win in that case.

Of course, it's always a good reminder (for myself and for anyone else on this type of journey) that the road to success is bumpy. Very bumpy:

But I wanted to point something out about this bumpiness, which led to the title of my post. Obviously, taking a hiatus from meetings and weigh-ins and, let's be honest, the plan in general can lead to major gains. But I realized that even if I miss a meeting and weigh-in, I'm doing much better about being in control and jumping back into plan. Take a look at what I mean:

1st 6 week gap "off plan" - gained 5 pounds (actually, almost 6)

2nd 2 week gap "off plan" - gained 4.4 pounds (stupid Christmas cookies...)

3rd 2 week gap "off plan" - LOST 1 pound!

Yes, I'm better about counting points now and making better choices. But the other big difference - my "improved habit" - is knowing when I'm full. I've always been a clean-your-plate and/or keep-picking-at-it-even-if-you're-not-hungry type. But lately, I've been better about saying "Nope, I'm done" and really being done. I think that new habit has helped me even in moments where I'm apt to overindulge (like a trip to the Sugar Factory in Las Vegas for dessert...ooof....).

For those of you with healthier living plans/goals for 2013, how's the new year been shaping up for you?

*waves* - I'm still here!

I know I've been incommunicado around these parts, and I have to admit, that's probably going to continue for a bit. It's safe to assume that if I'm not blogging, all I've got going on in life is work, work, more work, and very little sleep.

But today I have I day off, so I'm catching up on a few things! I'm hoping to schedule out a handful of blog posts (I realize a lot of people do this but don't admit to it...why? Is there some sort of mystery ruined by saying "Yup, wrote that post on Monday even though it didn't go live until Wednesday?") for the week.

Here's a quick rundown of what I've been up to lately:

  • Reading YA paranormal again (I finished two series in the past two weeks: Kiersten White's Paranormalcy, Supernaturally, and Endlessly, and Andrea Cremer's Nightshade, Wolfsbane, and Bloodrose - I highly recommend both.)
  • Watching movies with my hubs (Warm Bodies is excellent!)
  • Trying out some Pinterest projects...will do a post about that later
  • Having a quick girls weekend in Vegas (pic below)
  • Sampling lots of new products thanks to Birchbox and BzzAgent (more on those later too)
  • Work, work, work, more work, oh and today's my day off and I'll probably be working

That's about it. Thanks for sticking around. I know I always say "I hope to be back to regular posting soon!" and I sincerely mean that...I just haven't managed to put words into action yet.

How've you been? Did you have a long weekend this weekend too?

Sunday Social + A Sincere Apology

I'm sorry for my absence last week, and I'm sorry that it's probably going to continue for a few weeks. We've had some big shake-ups at work, combined with a three-day trip to Vegas next weekend, that have basically meant a significant reduction in anything that even resembled free time. I'm going to try to post at least one per week, if I can, but if I'm quiet around here this February, I am sorry. I will be back!

Before I go on (continue?) my not-quite-a-full-hiatus, I'm going to link up for this week's Sunday Social!

Sunday Social

1. If you were stuck on an island, what are the two material items you'd like to have? I'm assuming we don't mean things like food or shelter, so I'm going to say my iPad or iPhone and a charging station.

2. What are two television shows you'd watch over and over? Just two? Ha. I watch Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother alllllllll the time. I also watch (and rewatch) a lot of Community, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Gilmore Girls, Sex and the City...seriously, just two?

3. If your house was on fire, what two things (aside from family/pets) would you grab? My wedding album and my box of childhood photos.

4. What are your two most favorite articles of clothing? I have a grayish-green and blue striped sweater from Forever 21 that I adore, as well as a black suede-like jacket from Macy's.

5. What two movies that you saw in the past year would you recommend? The Avengers and Brave. (And The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part II of course!)

6. What are your two biggest guilty pleasures? YA paranormal romance series and wine.

Thanks for swinging by. Like I said, it will probably be quiet around these parts for a while, but I hope you stick around!

WW: Lowest Weight Since Start

Well, this is exciting! I missed last week's weigh-in, but at this week, I was down 2.6 pounds, which is right on track (-1.3 per week, on average).

Also, I weighed in this week and found myself at my lowest weight since starting this journey back in August of 2012! Granted, it's only 0.2 pounds lower, but it's lower! It's been a roller coaster this far, yes, but I finally feel like I'm headed in the right direction:

Now that I'm feeling more secure in my food habits, I've decided to amp up the activity. I've done this by signing up for a gym. My husband is going with me. We're going to be each other's moral support. I'm looking into the classes they offer (80 per week!) and possibly signing up for personal training. I'm most excited about the fact that they have racquetball courts. I haven't played racquetball since 2004, but it was one of my favorite things to do.

Do you belong to a gym? What do you like to do? Any classes I should look for? I know they have Zumba, which I want to try...what else?
